Story n Review

It is a very long film running for almost three and a half hour. As we go on watching it we feel it deserves some more editing. It has almost the same format that Bharateeyudu and Oke Okkadu have. That is punishing the guilty and thankless persons, who are harming Mother India, hindering its progress. Here the hero is Ramanujam (Vikram). He is a lawyer and is conscious of what is going on around. He checks instantly if anyone misbehaves or hurts anyone and even when he does not display civic sense. He even does not hesitate to drag them to court. There is a graphic example of a railway catering case, serving bad and unhygenic food to the passengers. He is greatly hurt whenever court acquits them either saying due to lack of proper evidence or benefit of doubt. He does not even spare a girl Nandini (Sada), whom he deeply loves, when she commits a mistake by paying fewer fees towards the registration fees. How he punishes them is the major interest of the film.

The film opens with somebody spitting on Ramanujam, Ramu in short. He stops him and teaches him a lesson. Whenever his emotion builds up, Ramu turns into that ‘Aparichithudu’. This ‘Aparichithudu’ sends mails to persons with these threats and asks the recipients to take copies of his letter and circulate among others. The clean-shaved and a neat man with a tuft, in typical Vaishnava style, changes into a weird-looking Aparichithudu. His hairs cover his eyes, like a hanging curtain. And he gains superpowers. No body can stand before him. And then he gives them a punishment prescribed in ‘Garuda Puranam’, a treatise on activities in the land of Yama and the punishment given to each crime. Here Aparichitudu also follows the same Garudapuranam in which all these are mentioned and punishes people accordingly. it is a Bhagavadgeetha for him. Now police start hunting for him. A CID officer (Prakashraj) finally corners this man and then invites a psychoanalyst to examine him. The doctor says that Ramu is suffering from a syndrome. That is changing him mentally into different forms, which he does not know. How to bring him out of that syndrome is discussed in the last part. Even before that action is taken; the police officer subjects him to all kinds of punishment. And he receives equal punishment from Aparichithudu, as a reaction. The last parts reveal his real identity and there is a wonderful battle scene between him and a group of karate fighters. It is well shot.

The film is worth watching for its technical greatness. The music elevates every scene. Vikram offers wonderful performance including a third role of a romantic hero named Remo, whom Nandini loves. Sada in the role of Nandini has done a good job. Nasser as psychiatrist and Prakashraj as police officer make a mark on the drama. The film also deserves a bit of editing too, particularly of scene with Ramu, the lawyer. There is another interesting scene, though not well connected to the main theme, of musicians rendering a pancharatna kirtana of Thyagaraja Samadhi in Tiruvayyaru.
